The Senator kicks you in the teeth. The 121.4 proof really packs a wallop. I got this whiskey a few years ago through the Healthy Spirits SF whiskey club and have been sitting on the end of it because I like the bottle / name so much. It's a hell of a whiskey.
The Senator - Barrel Proof Rye
Rank: 8
Nose: A harsh smell to start from the alcohol. Then it turns leafy and sweet. Raisins, honey, light spice from the rye, and molasses.
Taste: Zesty and hot, yet vegetal. Butterscotch and oak.
Body: Pretty thin in the mouth, but the flavor is powerful.
Finish: It's hot but not too hot. Stays with you, but the flavor isn't overly long nor does it leave your mouth feeling coated.
---
Overall: Buy it if you see it.
