This is another holdover from my Healthy Spirits SF club. At 63.4% ABV / 126.8 proof, this boozy beast has been hard to get through. I love a cask strength whiskey as much as the next guy but it's pretty difficult to drink this on a random Tuesday (or Wednesday as it is at the time of writing).
Woody Creek Distillers - Colorado Straight Whiskey
Rank: 6
Nose: Astringent in an ethanol-ly type of way. Sugar and plums.
Taste: Floral and vegetal. A hint of beets. And hot. Very hot.
Body: Oily and acidic, yet nuanced with the vegetation.
Finish: That hint of vegetation creeps up into your nose and burns itself into your palate.
---
Overall: For what it is, it's good. I prefer caramel and molasses to a strong terroir (aka a clod of dirt) any day.
